Alesse (/æ'le:sɛ/ : Alesse dialect) is a semi-independent juncture that has stood as Vereva's most populous city-state for 18 centuries. It borders the Bogriai Ocean to the south, the city-state of Adølie to the east, and the Lilibeth River, which separates it from neighboring Country 11 to the west. The Divine Baracade separates it from the city-state of Añdriana at its northern border.

Etymology
Alesse, from the Old Almsaundean "Aless", is a diminutive of the Ancient Almsaundean "Alessajndrjana", a feminine name. The name "Aless" is still used to refer to the Alesse of the Ancient and Old Almsaundean Worlds, while Alesse only refers to the city-state that exists in the Modern Almsaundean World. The Almsaundean worlds are based on use of language during a period of time.
History
Alesse was created via the division of Alessajndrjana into Aless and Ajndrjana by cause of the Fielosheim War that began in 677. The war began when heresy against Fielosheimism spread throughout the southern regions of Alessajndrjana do to culmination of foreign cultures who wished to relocate or do business in the port city of Peiredas. Those devout in their beliefs saw this as an attack on their belief system, which originated in the area. The Fielosheimists opted to construct a wall between themselves and the "heathens," as instructed by their holy scriptures of the Fielosheimbuekheit. The wall, called the Divine Baracade would stand ___ miles between the two holy cities of Buenur and Eviesse and would be made of 1ft thick brick, stacked 15ft high and 4ft thick. The project necessitated the demolition of many homes and buildings, mainly Alessan, that stood in the way. The Alessans revolted against the Andrians who would tear down their property, but were often met by the combined forces of not only the Andrians, but also mercenaries from Kalbin and the Rasoran Union, and Adelian and Anderian opportunists who would seek the right moment to rid themselves of the "heathen menace."
Because they two were at war, they also gained independence from Vereva during this time under the Unity Clause (Wënotiemlaw, Lindjerblau) which states that city-states warring amongst themselves must declare independency to prevent other city-states from being dragged into their feud.
