Atoskherakh (IPA: /æˈtʰoʊskɹək/; In Qitsári: Qatósxerax (IPA: /ʔaˈtoːsxɛrax/ is the biggest and northernmost country on the planet. It is located in the north-west of the biggest continent. It is a multi-national empire (though most of the ethnic groups are related, belonging to the Rugol language family) ruled by an empress with the help of an matriarchal oligarchy.

The motto of the empire is „Strength in Unity“, the motto of the Imperial House „Rule according to the mandate of the Mother“, the motto of the current Empress „Peace through Reform“.

Qatósxerax is long. It stretches through four climatic zones: tundra, taiga, moderate climate and Mediterranean climate. Geologically it consists of seven regions: two plains, a hill region, a mountain range, a sea district and two fjord regions.

Climate

Because of its stretched shape, Atoskherakh is a climatically diverse country. In the southern part of the country the climate is mediterranean. Humid continental climate dominates further up north inwards of the continent, while oceanic climate prevails in the middle coastal regions. In the north there is taiga, further up north tundra. The mountainous regions (more or less in the middle of the country) are quite barren, because the higher parts of the ... mountain range is covered with glaciers. Although agriculture is to some extent possible in summer, livestock farming is the most important part of economy in the mountains. In the tundra region nomadic lifestyle survived until today.

History

The country has a long history. It's society had already a big crisis and a nearly complete breakdown. Right now there is a second crisis coming, so the current empress tries to introduce many reforms to keep the country together.

The Qatós are a matriarchal society. That does not mean that man are excluded form public life - the Qatós are no gynocratists. There is, however, a strong distinction in what women are allowed to do and what men should do. Generally speaking, women are in charge of most religious affairs, the family and the clan. The whole society is matrilinear, men can not inherit land, which is owned by women (usually the clan elders). There are, however, possibilities for men to make money on their own, mainly in hard labor, the military or, to a certain extent for members of higher clans, in diplomacy.

The predominant architectural style for centuries is Tilxur, which would remind Earthly visitors of the Gothic style with a bit of old Russian architecture thrown in. Brick, wood and stone are the materials used nowadays - although houses built from wood, loam and straw are still often erected in remoter, not so wealthy regions of the Empire.
