Geography and Climate

History

Much of the ancient history of the Rasoran states was lost after the Erem War, but it is thought that the Rasoran ethnic group first migrated to the area about 1000 years ago. With more land available to them, they dispersed and formed small kingdoms. Other accounts of pre-Unification history are unverified and may be fictitious or exaggerated.

The Erem War and Unification

When Erem III took power in the state of Govon in 1883, he declared war on the other Rasoran states in an attempt to forcibly unite the people and create a 'new' Rasoran country. It was the goal of Erem III to see all traces of the past destroyed. As a result, many ancient buildings in and around the state of Govon were demolished and replaced with cheap, utilitarian housing. Agents were sent by Erem to destroy all historical documents in the other states, and the operation was largely successful. The agents had infiltrated the highest ranks of the record-keeping agencies and had burned or edited the Fundamental Documents. Erem III was defeated with the combined efforts of the other 13 states, and the alliance stuck through the end of the war. The Rasoran Union was formalized in 1885 by the Pact of Ivios, with all states voting unanimously to join. The term "osogu erema" comes from this conflict, approximately translating to "things never go the way you expect," referring to the technical accomplishment of Erem III's goal to see a united Rasoran country.

Government

The Rasoran Union is a Federal Republic and is headed by the Federal Council: the Legislative President, the Executive Officer, and the Judicial Minister (often referred to as the 'Big 3'). Each position serves one term for 6 years. The elections for LP, EO, and JM are staggered by 2 years each.

  • Rasoran Aerospace Agency (Rasori Kosmoso Ekunos)
The RKE is the Rasoran space program, working in conjunction with the Latelan Space Agency (Latelan Kosmoso Ekunos) on colonization and astronomical research projects.
  • Energy and Environment Agency (Enerugos ju Eretonehaso Ekunos)
This agency oversees clean energy production and environmental restoration.

Education

Education is mandatory from age 5 to 16 and is available to the public. University education is also public, but funded by the federal government rather than the state. The University of Ivios is the largest school in terms of enrollment and area.

The literacy rate is 99%.

Military

There are approximately 600,000 active troops in the Rasoran armed forces, with an additional 1,400,000 personnel in reserve. Service is non-compulsory and may begin at age 16.

The Defense Council

The Defense Council is a group of military officers that has complete control over the air, ground, naval, and spatial forces. Each member of the council is elected directly by the people, and may serve up to 3 six-year terms. In order to engage in any military action, 11 out of 14 council members must approve. The approval may be nullified by any two of the Big 3.

Demographics

Languages

Angos is the official language of the Rasoran Union and is spoken by approximately 93 million people in the country. Nithalosian is the second most-widely spoken language with 5.5 million, recognized regionally in the states of Wes-Eda and Watane. The Laefêvëši language follows with 750k speakers along the coastal region.

Various Rasoric dialects are spoken throughout the country and are recognized regionally.

Culture

Each state of the Rasoran Union has a unique culture, though cultural trends exist in certain regions. In the northern states it is common to see architecture reminiscent of Buddhistic practices.

Kosmoswatio

It is widely accepted that the early settlers of the Rasoran territories were celestial worshippers. An extensive belief system endured for hundreds of years which included customs like intricate tattoos across the body and ritual marathons (both of which are still practiced today). At the core of the ancient beliefs were sun and moon. The sun was seen as an aggressive figure, chasing away the stars, and the moon was seen as a hero and a beacon, fighting off the sun and guiding the stars back to the sky.
